OpenAir is the name of a project that combines video projection with vertical dance. This is a sample of the work I was challenged to develop in the context of a magic house. The show was produced by Oskar&Gaspar , a company especialized in video mapping and video art, and took place at the Castle of Estremoz, Portugal. It was great seying my images projected in a 6 x10 meters wide castle wall and to observe the performers interact with the animations.

Psicoburguers

I enjoy to invent stuff being digital or hand made. I often play with the sense of ambiguity that tricks the mind by defying the notion of reality. The concept bellow is inspired by the world of advertising which I define as a fast food parlour specilized in manufacturing feel good plastic objects for the delight of a the masses. The concept was materialized in AutodeskMaya and aimed for 3D print.

O tratado de Tordesilhas

This is a study for a painting ( 320x 140 cm ) evoking The Treaty of Tordesillas (1494),
praising the enterprising vision of two countries, who decide to discover the world, defying the
“fear” and the superstition of the Middle Ages, and being rewarded with the knowledge and the
wealth that are going to inaugurate modernity. The painting is part of an wider project portraying
general aspects of the Portuguese culture that shape and define its unique personality. A body of
work focused in exposing the common idiossincracies of a nation as proud to celebrate its glorious
past, as well as it´s ruined present!

Romeu e Julieta 2.0

" Romeu e Julieta 2.0" is part of a series of illustrations that suggest a particular look
or observation over the day to day life in a city like Lisbon. The illustrations appeal
to common cliches around the local culture and it´s idisossincratic identity. A city
that fights to keep up with the demands of the globalization with a permanent foot
on the past. A city that honors the beauty of it´s historical touristic attractions with
the same affection as the ugliness that lies right beside and renders it tipical to the
 foreigner`s eye. Welcome to " a Outra Lisboa "

Esqueletos Colaterias

Painting exhibition invitation for an upcoming event, starring me and the amazing artist
Pedro Zamith. It will take place at Bang Bang contemporary art gallery. This is a two hand
collective project around the myth of the eternal return. The spectator  can most certainly
expect a degree of irony and sarcastic humor as the trademark of  both styles. I defy you not
to miss it cause it will be a celebration of life and death, heaven and hell, to the sound of rock
and roll played by Moorish boy. Check it out...and don`t be late!

" Bagage "

Part of a series of collages deconstructing the visual grammar of advertising by playing with the elementa -
ry codes it uses to capture the consumer`s attention. These appeal to common feelings of joy, spontaneity
,charm, adventure, comfort and distinction... combined with an ironic twist that can be perceived as a cyni -
cal view over the whole social phenomena of consumerism. I have been working these images as brief sketches
to influence a body of work suitable to paint in canvas. They are mostly guidelines that help me to pin down
and assert thoughts at this stage. A psychological get away from a world that I know well and have so much
to say:)

DUPOND and DUPONT!

TOYZE is a collaborative project between me and my twin brother. We have always sketched stuff
together and have influenced each other inevitably for all our lives. My brother is an amazing
artist and a massive producer of ambivalent drawings full of humor and hidden messages.
We like to conduct mix experiments of our both styles combined, totally independent  of commercial
constraints. The mix consist mostly in collages where we assemble pieces of each other`s
graphic explorations. The result can be seen in drawings or even paintings that we have been
exhibiting occasionally. Stay tuned for further developments.

ALMANAQUE DE UM FILANTROPISTA MISANTROPO

" ALMANAQUE DE UM FILANTROPISTA MISANTROPO " is the title of the book made in colaboration
with the amazing artists; Pedro Zamith, Nuno Luz and António José Carvalho my twin brother.
The book is a parody buttered with the right amount of sarcasm and irony that flows from our
minds when we have the chance to get together and to work without constraints. This small
motion graphics I produced, anticipates the launch of the book that will be available very soon
by the well knowed Abysmo publisher  www.abysmo.pt

The original idea and format of the book was programmed by me and Pedro Zamith.
We developed and drawn most of the illustrations on our free time after work meeting
one time a week for a period of about one year. The process implied we exchanged and
intervened constantly on each other compositions, almost like a cadavre exquis but with
a open dialogue and negotiation. Here follows some pics of our work that are part also of
a catalogue of Portuguese illustration called Salão Lisboa.

A viagem

Wondering about the ways of the world...and the moment when anything and
everything is allowed beyond fear as one reaches immortality!...These illustrations
are part of a concept that I have been working on to activate the studio´s brand.
They are also a platform to test and experiment the qualities of the Arnold Render
by practicing the teachings of the amazing André Ferreira whose skills have helped
me to achieve this result.

and the incredible work of Manuel Caeiro.

DRAGON

This set of illustrations are part of self - promo I was challenged to create for a start up film
production studio called Rocky Studio. My assignment was to produce a series of works that
could capture the idea of overcoming limitations and fears in the path to glory as an analogy
to the Silvester Stalone´s film whose message served as the source of inspiration for the studio´s
name. I focused my attention to the root of all are fears and stablished a narrative that goes
from childhood to a mature age when most of all our fears are conquered.

My participation covered areas such as concept art, art direction, 3D modeling
,3D texture, and image compositing.
I underline the precious contribution of the cg artist André Ferreira in presenting
clever solutions for the lighting, rendering and Mash plug -in experiments.
Here I leave some pics that reveal the modeling and texturing stage
